Charmouth a Report by a Novice

Well here goes a report on sea fishing, mmmmm, this is so strange, well here goes.

Greenheart said he fancied a bit of sea fishing, and I don’t mind going as well but I am so convinced there are only 11 fish in the whole of the sea, 4 black bream, 4 whiting, 1 eel, 1 pout and finally a single Cod. So anyway Ian suggested that we leave at 7:30 and head of to Charmouth for the day.

So by 10:00 we were at Charmouth, after popping into Weymouth Angling Centre for supplies and a quick trip to ASDA. After an hour’s fishing Ian had been snagged up 3 times after 4 casts and had lost his rigs on each occasion. Ian was getting a little frustrated and suggested that we moved to another beach. I was ok with this but just to let everyone know I didn’t lose any tackle

View of Charmouth beach.

So we moved off to another beach, this beach I couldn’t remember the name but I think I may have been there before, I mean it looks the same to me, one huge lake with no islands’ to fish too.
To cut a very very very long story short “We blanked, not a sausage, nada, zilch, zero, absolutely nothing.” So by 7pm we packed up and headed for the local Chinese, MMMM lovely.

And Home by 10pm.

Ohh before I forget, we came across a stone circle made by a young land and this example of what he done. I went and ruined it by touching it, yep you guessed it, it fell over, ops.

Re: Charmouth a Report by a Novice

Definately a hard day. As Steve said, we started at Charmouth, but after losing three leads & rigs in four casts, I was beginning to get a bit despondant. What really killed it for me, was when a family with young children decided to have a picnic about six feet behind me. Obviously the beach was not big enough for them & I was worried about hitting one of the kids with 6oz of lead when casting. So it was decided to give burton Bradstock a try. We arrived there to find about 30-40 other anglers fishing & nobody catching a thing I did meet on guy who had caught a small sea trout on a spinning rod. We fished through into darkness & tried a variety of baits (Squid, Sandeel & Rag) but could'nt get a bite.

Steve waiting for a bite

Steve gets bored & decides to try & knock a big orange ball out of the sky with a stick
Had a chance try out my new Sonik SK4 rod & Although I did'nt christen it, I'm very impressed with it as a casting tool.
Roll on summer when a few more fish start to show.

Re: Charmouth a Report by a Novice

I will be hitting Chesil for the first this year next weekend. Lets hope my timing is spot on to bag the Portland pluggers a few more species points. Told you to come Trout fishing this weekend Ian.

I heard rumors from the local Bass experts the Kimeridge has started to fish.
