| Flatty bashing This weekend I fancied a change, so when Paul my work mate mentioned he was going beach casting, I took the advantage to invite myself to join him. The original venue chosen was Hythe but a good recourse told me that it has been fishing cr*p the past 6 months. Met Paul at 8.30am in Poole at Wessex angling to get some bait and a few other bits I needed...so while 'tackle tarting' we talked about venues and decided to give Lepe a go instead. Arriving at Lepe, we checked out the venue.....it looked good...not that I know a lot about sea fishing but it did shouted 'Flatties' to me. After paying a little fee of £2 for parking, Paul took a little walk up the beach to check out a good spot, whilst I stayed in the car catching up with some breakfast I missed out in the morning. About 10 mins later Paul returned informing me that he just saw a sign where it stated that the car park would be locked at 16.00 hrs. Darn, high tight was at 15.00hrs, the idea was to fish 3 hrs up, 3 hrs down, so a quick decision was mate that it wasn't worth it, so to back-up plan 3, Magazine Lane. Arrived there around 11am and the weather was quite nice actually, the sun popped out and we were well protected from the wind there. The only annoying parts were the Cargos on the opposite side....all we can hear were people shouting which sounded like a mega phone....not very efficient loading neither...I bet our guys at work would have loaded them in 'no time' lol. ![]() Anyway, Paul being a power caster he tried to hit and sink the cargo And guys believe me....he wasn't far off to achieve it lol. I managed to birds nest my 7HT, so nothing new there but was soon up and fishing again. Paul must have hit in to a shoal of pouting but I couldn't buy a bite if I'd tried. I just couldn't cast out far enough in to the deeper water, so I asked Paul to do a cast for me and bingo!!! Not long before I had a positive knock on that rod and another...so I picked the rod up, reeled in to it felt and felt a kick. I thought maybe a pouting (at that stage I even would have been happy with one)....but to my surprise it was a little schoolie...an excuse of a Bass but hey...still some points. ![]() Paul too had a couple of schoolies but was mainly pulling in the pouting. Magazine Lane is a bit of a tackle grave yard and I must have lost at least 4 sets of gear but hey, that's sea fishing for you. Around 5pm we decided to call it a day, as I was getting fed up with needing to re-tackle and the fish weren't playing anyway, not a single flatty in sight. Still I had a great time, specially watching Paul casting... at times I thought he is going to snap his Blank in half lol. Walked passed a few other anglers on the way to the car but things weren't happening for them neither. I knew Lee was down at the Itchen bridge with a few mates, I gave him a call around 3.30pm but they didn't have a single knock all day, despite of 8 rods being out. Still a very pleasant day for me and I knew a nice hot cooked meal was waiting for me when I get home. Life isn't that bad after all because not just a hot meal but also a mahooooosive packet of white toblerone and a new bottle of ginger wine were waiting for me. (Bless Mike, he is a softy REALLY) ;-) __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

| Re: Flatty bashing Made an nice change fishing in day light. only the second time I've fish Mag lane and it's the first time i've managed to catch any thing. the fish apeared to in tide rip about 90+ meters out which came as shock bacause I've allways though that mag lane was deep water short cast mark. Claudia's casting got better as the day though out the day. Altough i would say an longer will make thing easier for her but she never give up hope and worked hard. ( if only it was the case at work only jokeing)great day out kooked fish in day light, tried an diffent mark and back in doors in time to wacth CSI:NY result. Roll on Chesil on Saturday. |
