Post Bristol Channel Marks - Part 1

If you are thinking of going up or coming down to fish the Bristol Channel.... here is the start of some helpful info (I Hope)

This is New Passage Nr Aust, excellent venue, easy to find, easy to park not a long walk and fishes well during the winter for whiting and Cod. Stable fishing platform, is a concrete walkway.

Best Baits: Lug and Squid, Rag and Squid, Whole Squid
Type of Ground: Semi Rough close in
Best Rig: Pennel Pulley
Hook sizes: 1 or 2/0 3/0 for whole squid
Best fished 3hours up 1-2 hours down depending on size of tide
Tides: Springs but no more than 13 metres
Best Tides: 11.5 -12.5 metres
Best time to fish: Night time

In picture 3 the other side of the new severn crossing is Severn Beach.

How to get there:

New Passage area

Where to park:

Redwick - Bristol

Forgot to add, take the junction just before old seven bridge, go to bottom of slip road and follow signs for Severn Beach/ Avonmouth, until you get to a set of traffic lights. At these lights turn right and follow the road as far as you can go. Park on side of road. Road turns to your right. At the end of this road there is a gateway with a turnstile. Walk through there and you are now on the walkway. DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE HOUSES DRIVEWAYS. Be warned!

Hope to see you there sometime.

Re: Bristol Channel Marks - Part 1

Hi Smoothie,
Think I might join you there this winter. Are you gonna post up your fishing dates? Or do you just grab a rod or two and go when you can. I understand if you do as thats how I normally work.
You must come out on the boat next year as I know I have a lot to learn from you.
Cheers, Jules.

Hi Jules,

Will be out again on the 14th November; probably, sometimes just grab my rods and go... weather permitting.

Your welcome anytime, don't worry about rigs... I have enough to go round.

You only have to ask me once to come out on a boat Jules!!

I just love it!

Cool Re: Bristol Channel Marks - Part 1

Jules I just thought,

We were planning a trip to the Taw at Barnstaple on the 21st November to fish for flounder, if they are still about, and there is not too much fresh water.

Fancy it??

Dave,
I have not forgotten mate....

I am aiming for 21st November as seems to be a lowish tide, will check my info later.

Plenty of room down there, so the more the merrier.... by the way Kev dosen't have to have live sandeel so should even it up a bit
You don't have to cast far either..... should even it up even more!!

There's too much rainwater coming down at the mo, but it will push the crabs further down the Estuary.

Will keep you posted.

Re: Bristol Channel Marks - Part 1

Hi Shaun,
Yeah 21st Nov looks good to me, love those flounders just caught my PB at Teignmouth at only 2 1/2 lbs, need a bigger fish!
Had a good day lately when I managed to buy a guys entire fishing gear collection for 150 quid, 6 rods, boat and shore, 6 multipliers up to tuna level and 3 very big boxes of smaller stuff. Won't have to buy anymore gear before I die, but will anyway!
Look forward to 21st, be in touch.
I've changed my e mail addresses due to insecurity of microsoft.

Re: Bristol Channel Marks - Part 1

congrats on poster of the month!
Looking forward to 21st, finalised booking it off today so sorted.
What baits are we gonna need? Gonna bring a couple of guys with me as usual and know the area a bit, where are we gonna meet?
Going either piking or trouting this week, got 2 pike last week. Any fish are good for me. Have you been on the Bangor university sea fishing questionaire site? I think we all ought to.
Talk soon. Jules.
