looes boat trip 10/10/08

sorry it bit l8 but got back from cornwall and went straght in to 12 hour shifts
anyway.................
well for a change the wind got up and we were forced on to the reefs instead of the the wrecks, but as it turned out it was a result.
we set off at 8am on board the swallow skippered by murry collins as we head out we could not find any inshore mackerel, so we head out the the reef (12miles out)and hit in to plenty. in went the hook and away we went.
1 rod for conger and 1 spinning rod for pollock and ling, 1st up for me was a nice 7-8lb ling then a doozen or so pollock to 4lb , bit on the small side but still good fun on a spinning rod, next i tryed for some red bream, with small hooks and tiny baits, but got pestered by cuckoo wrasse, poor cod and scad, which was fine for spieces hunting (but did feel bit silly taking piccys of shit fish). by mid day the conger rod still had not had even a touch , i tryed pout flapper, mackerel flapper and sides, even a bundle of squid. but not a touch ??????
by about mid afternoon i had a different bite on the spinning rod , could it be ???? yep my first red bream, all 1/2lb of it ;D, off i tod to get my phone for a kodac moment it had gone flat...........what a t**t must have not turned the wall socket on when charging up the nite b4, any way it went back to be caught next year when it bigger.
as i put the bream back my conger rod went .....at last some think that can pull and bite you....lol. and after a minute or two i could feel some one elses line aganst mine then ping ......gone
couple of swear words later i started to tackel up again(come back to that later ::)) as i was doing so, someone said " iv got a weird bite, feels like a bag or weed with bit of fight"
skipper came out and said "squid i recon", my eyes lite up and the spinning rod went down with squid jig on a flying colar rig and instantyly i had one on , and another 5 b4 thay went again. bit lter on few of the other manged a couple more by accendet and we were off again.squid jigs realy do clean up as us that had them on were in to them every drop.
most squid were around the 2-3lb mark but the were plenty of bigger one around 5-6lb , my biggest was 5 1/2lb
then it was time and we head home and remember that lost conger and tackel.......one of the guys on the other side of the boat reeled up with my trace and a 30lb conger ......lol so god know s when he changed his bait all day ...lol
i was well and truely chuffed to bits with my squid.
heads for bait and bodys for dinner, and trust me thay are spot on.
plus few spieces for the hunt with cuckoo ,scad and red bream

sadley i could not get out to fish again , due to him been booked up and bit of beer consumption.

still the one day i did get was great, roll on next time

Nice one mate... Shame about the phone, I'd have loved to have seen the squid.

Cracking fishing.

Thumbs up Re: looes boat trip 10/10/08

Nice report John. Sounds like a great trip. That squid recipe sounds tasty. I hope you don't mind, but i'm going to copy & paste it into the Forum recipe page that i'm trying to get going.
