| burnham on sea ( not so muddy) went to burnham again last night with rich and 2 other good clubmates low tide was at 7.24 at 3.4mt , going to high at 1.30am at 7mtr so was a total neap low we were in high hopes of getting rich his first thornie, and or all a decent fish as south coast is hard work at moment we were severaly geared up for the mud this time by carrying everything in buckets that we would hang from tripods ,anddecided on keeping it down to the bare essential such as a few rigs and weights you dont lose much here, bait, scales, pliers and ![]() bait for the fish was pretty much just squid with also a few sandeel to ring the changes with also a hint of worm to see if a sole about, rigs stayed with size 4/0 pennel plu a size 4 sole rig well conditions couldnt have been more different( we guess since due to the neap tide keeping the sand dry) in that there was only mud for the last 20/30 paces or so and that we were stood on sand all eve, moon was bright as well eventually Si got a good knock on his ( SIZE 4) and pulled in a tripple shot of mini whiting and this beasty hanging from the bottom hook where it had snaffled the bottom hook( taf has the eel as Si dont like them) ![]() Scratching B#*t@rd ![]() then a while later taf has his own conger ![]() and after that Rich had 1 as well ![]() but unfortunately the ray did not want to show tonight we fished 8pm -12 when the slowness got to us and we headed off to find there are no late night kebabs in burnham me well i avoided the blank with this leviathon of a whiting on the size 4 sole rig (another scratching B#*t@rd as they would call me in club )![]() still another good night and its all learning about this venue now off to find a conger recipe as have one in fidge as never had before ![]() dave ps, if theres anyone with a north coast tide table that could remind us what the tide was 2 weeks ago on 24th sept i would be very gratefull as well as i forgot to record it ![]() __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives Last edited by pingu; 10-09-2008 at 01:32 PM. |

| Re: burnham on sea ( not so muddy) Well done Dave another good night - good place to fish I reckon and especially if you can avoid the mud - can you let me know what the conger is like ? Ive been tempted to keep just one when weve been out on the boat for them but without knowing what they are like or a recipe Ive not bothered. | Nice report Dave. In my experience, Conger is only fit for feeding to the Dog. Bit like Tetley Beer really, although I think even my Greyhound would draw the line at that. What happened to the Dotty Cluck??? Seriously though, I found Conger to be very strong flavoured & only really suitable for fishcakes with lot's of Herbs & spices. Be interested to hear what you think. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: burnham on sea ( not so muddy) T'was a nice enough evening in the end, but I'm almost upset the mud wasn't there (What am I saying??? ) after the prep we put in to combat the conditions. Everything essential from my fishing ruckie got dumped into the bucket and away we went. Everything that is apart from my spare headtorch and guess what decided to give up the ghost moments after we got to the mark??? I spent the whole night getting more illumination from my tip light than my head torch and when you're trying to unhook toothy critters, that ain't good. ![]() Quote:
