| Fisrt cod of the winter ! Fished a local mark in the bristol channel this morning - a bit cold and windy and welcome back to the reality of winter cod fishing !! Anyway caught a nice codling between the 2 - 3lb range which was photographed and returned to fight another day - cant see the point in keeping one that will only give you a very small meal - no matter how excited I was. One strange pouting / whiting / cod thing - looked like a pouting shape wise, had teeth like a whiting but a beard of a cod so christ knows - photographed again and returned. Old man had two good bites but failed to connect but all in all a promising start to the season of cold and dark nights - cant wait to get out again. Lets hope the trawlers catch nothing but sprats and we catch all the codling ....................... yeeeeeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !
