this week i shall be mostly fishing ilfracombe

well as got some horrid night work all this week way up up on north coast
decided to use time before shift productively

so took rods with me and decided to fish the pier there as heard alot about it on other forums as a mixed bag type of venue

got there 8.30 and found a few others there, ( carparh free from 9pm-10am and easy access here, could be good disabled venue)

quick chat for info thanks guys and set up
looking along pier ( at high tide this is underwater)

but set up quickly

was a lovely eve with good scenery what more can you want

wales in distance

sunset onto the rocks wow

i only had bass rods but more than adequate into this area as clean ground, it is rockier if you cast seaward apparently

bait was peeler( not touched by anything so not wasteing again)
ragworm and squid which the crabs were stripping from hooks in minutes

dureing light nothing for me but guy on end had a gurnard and others floatfishing a few small pollock

as darkness fell so the pout took over from the crabs in baitrobbing duties, but i did hook a couple to save a blank

i decided to send out a whole squid on a size 3/0 just because i could, and soon missed a cracking rachet runn( how does that happen)

then as almost time to go had another good run and a shortscrap saw 2 eyes and a snakelike beasty in water below me( had been told plenty of strap conger here) but it wasnt hooked properly and fell off (with my bait as its trophy )as lifted frpom water, oh well

11.40pm came round far too soon and had to go to work

i'll be back with the bigger rod and 6/0 and makkie later tonight
I feel a new species for me comeing on this week)
plus did hear of ray and huss

dave

Re: this week i shall be mostly fishing ilfracombe

went again last night armed with rag still and mackeral
had to fish from top as underwater
( and this is just a small tide )

met some people from another forum and saw a nice plaice being caught so i went for 1 rod big makkie bait and 6/0 other rod 3 hook flapper and worm for a plaice or anything

was plagues by crabs till dusk then lots of tiny pollock , pout and rock gobys for points

not a touch on the makkie , guess i'll have to go back

dave

Thats a dab alright! Smooth from head to tail but rough if you run your finger from tail to head!
