And of may near Perranporth Well it looks like the first family holiday of the year is nearly here and it's a week in Perran Sands. So it looks like a week of fishing on the big sandy beach or within walking distance of the same as family needs wil dictate whenI can go. Anyone got an info on fishing on or near ? Cheers, Pete. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: And of may near Perranporth Ah well it was better than being at the office anyway. Got back from the other end of the M5 yesterday after an uneventful 5 hour drive. We stayed at the campsite till 4 to avoid the A30 fuel blockade. No problem with it, how they make any money down in Cornwall from freight baffles me so good on 'em. The fishing. Thats' enough of that .... No it was a case of fish shen we could so the tide and the bait weren't always to my personal liking but it was better than hanging on to the awning as the wind tried to rip it out of the ground. Trip one. Perranporth beach. Day time. Tide low and rising . Bait was mackerel (cos that's what we had). result, a not suprising blank. Trip two. Perranporth beach. Night, one hour before high tide, varied baits with lug, squid, and sandeel. Almost immediately hit in to one bass a piece. These were schoolies and I thought "here we go", but there they went, no more bites for the next couple of hours. Trip three. RickSteinville (or Padstow as some Gordon Ramsay fans call it). A crabbing session for the kids while the women went to spend hours walking round the shops. This really was a case of we're here so a bait in the water stands a better chance than none, but not by much. Fishing was rubbish but the crab pot I bought was great. No prawns or shrimp but if I 'd have wanted hard backs these things are great. No fish, but was really a line dangle than a fishing session and the kids loved it. Trip four. Perranporth Day time, low to rising tide. Switched to having a go at spinning and plugging into the surf and it also gave me an opportunity to let my eldest have a go too. Phew ! she likes fising again and is quite a mean cast considering. Needless to say it wasn't a long session but was fun. Result....... Trip five. Perranporth, much later in the day. Night tide, high. Fished VERY light with a sandeel in an effort to try spinning something out. Nope thatdidn't work but again it was either that or sit watching a Bratz DVD so off it was. Last trip. Now I would have laid money on this producing. More sandeel and no experimenting. Tide was 2 am. It was dark and there was a good surf but little wind. We'd found some broken ground to the down tide side of a stream and cast to it. NOTHING not even a rap. The sandeel came back completely untouched. So there you go, another report of my continuing inability to catch fish. Avoided too much experimentation and sat it out on beach casting gear and nowt. Lessons ? Perran Sands is at the top of a very steep hil and the walk back is quite fun, worth bearing in mind if you have mobility issues. On the map it looks like it's set in dunes beside the sea. The dunes are 80M tall so it's a sloop alright. Overcasting or undercasting ? Was casting between 40 and 80 M . Maybe I need to learn to cast further . There was little sign of food on the beach, did this mean there were few fish? It's amazing how even a small schoolie can make it all seem worth it again. Stupid sport.......now I can't wait till the Isle of Wight in 8 weeks. Pete. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: And of may near Perranporth We went to Mevagissey during the week and a storm and watched the waves come over the sea wall at low tide. Bl@@dy hell it was rough. Had a quick look at the aquariam and called in to the tackle shop at the front. Nice place. I did laugh my bits off watching some daft woman cause a three car gridlock rather than wait the ten seconds it would have taken for the car coming the other way to get past. Cheers mate. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: And of may near Perranporth Being Welsh means that , although the scenery is different, the people feel somehow familiar. That dry Cornish sense of humour reminds me of home :) I remember having a chat with an ancient looking bloke fishing Porhallow years ago "You from round here then?" (says I), "Yup", "What you after then?" , "Bass ", "Is it any good round here", "Snot bad", "Where's best then?" (yeah I know DUMB question), "I here there's a load being caught round the south Wales coast" and then he smiled. Still makes me laugh today. I hope he's still fishing for Bass and if not he'll be trying to get St Pete down to Cornwall for a Bass trip. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk
