A New Mark

What with the trials and tribulations of Cephalopod chasing all week, Mark Pete and I thought it would be a good idea to go and try to catch some proper fish shaped fish, not the many tentacled beasties we have been playing with, so we all piled into Marks car and headed Salcombe way, to a spot Mark's had his eye on, "not far" he said, i've come to realise that when Mark says that somewhere is'nt far, he actually means, "make a will, theres a chance you may die of fatigue". Anyhow, we got there, and this is the view back the way we came

The cars about half a mile the other side of that.
We all set up various rigs and belted them out into the bay, then got on with the business of messing about catching wrasse, beautifully coloured specimens, that gave stunning sport on light spinning gear, i tried my circle hooks, with some success

all the fish i had on the circles were lip hooked and returned quickly. Mark had this one, amongst others,

It never ceases to amaze me how each wrasse is individually coloured, no two are alike.
Pete also took a steady stream of wrasse, and a pollack, but, sadly, i failed to get any photo's, too busy! Eventually I brought my other rods in, and was surprised to find a doggie on one of them, re-baited and put them out again.
Pete found time to make a fuss of you know who

Max adores Mark and Pete, probably because they feed him when i'm not looking! Another angler had by this time shown up and had a lovely Plaice, he eventually managed three, two of which were returned, top angling mate, whoever you were, especially since the poor guy had lost a set of gear to a git of a dive boat, who decided to come 50 yards off the front of us, what was the matter with the rest of the coastline, that's what i'd like to know.
Anyway, the tide was on the flood, and the wrasse bites dried up a bit, so Mark and Pete started freelining rag baits, and were immediately into pollack, up to a pound and a half or so, those things do fight extremely well on the light gear, and they were regurgitating baby squid on landing, can't get away from the things!

I had to have a go, so put up the spinning rod again, and managed a few, awesome fun!
After a while we were all knackered and Max started to look expectantly at us

so we yomped it back to the car, a great day with these boys, as usual, terrific weather, and a scenic place to be, what more do you need?

Take care

Ian
