| A Bit Different Yet another snap decision by Mark on Thursday night saw Pete, Mark and myself heading down to the dreaded Torquay for a session off of Princess pier, luckily Mark knows his way around, i'd have still been driving around now, (hence the "dreaded"!) We started at 9ish, and within half an hour, Pete had a take, a few minutes and this chap made an appearance We were well pleased, as we had made the target species, within a short time as well, shortly after, Mark managed one another shot of the amazing colours What an incredible animal. Pete added to to tally a little later, and Squidward was introduced to Max Neither were impressed by the encounter! I was the next one, but mine came off on the surface inches away from the net, gutted! But at least the method was coming together for us, and we'd all had a bit of action. We headed back in the early hours, having fished far later than planned, I was happy though, a good evening in excellent company, and a new method learned. The next day at work, i was a tad tired, to say the least, as i'd managed 7 hours sleep in 48, Mark had to go and say he was returning that night! (Friday) Well, i had to tag along! Even though fatigue was taking hold and another working day loomed, a couple of cans of Red Bull and we were on the pier at last light. We started much the same as the previous night, but very little happened apart from the odd pull to the jigs, about an hour into dark, Mark saw a brown shape coasting along the wall, we grabbed the landing net and the result was a very surprised, but extremely unhappy Cuttlefish The colours were incredible, and it lit up green on the belly, we put it in a bucket of water, whereupon, in a fit of pique, it proceeded to ink four times, everytime we replaced the water, and it also bit the live pout we had caught for bait virtually in half, proper annoyed it was! Then it proceeded to produce a series of bubbling and amusing noises for a while, before calming down a bit. We moved down the pier a bit for the last half hour, and I eventually managed this little one A Loligo Vulgaris landed at last, (had to look that up!) I was a bit chuffed. Nothing more followed so we called it a night and Mark held the Cuttle up to try and show the green light on the belly, but the camera does'nt do it justice. Give it a try, it's a good way to spend an evening! Take it easy __________________ Remember what the dormouse said, ...... Feed your head.... Jefferson Airplane Giggety Giggety Giggety... | Really interesting report Ian. I've had a couple of Squid jigs in my tackle box for a while. One luminous & one Shrimp rig. Not quite sure how to use them though. Could you give an explanation of your tactics please as I've heard a few are caught off Weymouth Breakwater? Has anyone else got any info on catching Squid in the Weymouth area? |
