Need tips for layde bay....

Hi guys, i'm new to the site, but been fishin for 25 years. I fished layde bay last week, good mark, got 2 small codling, but had lots of trouble retrieving rigs/fish, as the rocks in front of the ledges were lethal. Can this mark only be fished at high water? I fished kingswear recently and caught good huss, biggest 11 lb. Plan to go there again in feb.

Re: Need tips for layde bay....

Welcome Ratman to the madhouse ....

Fished Layde Bay a few months back - my fist time ....

Take a bin bag for the tons of rubbish left behind by so called fishermen

Use rotten bottom links for fishing over the rocks - you will loose quite a few weights amongst the rocks so take lots of old weights etc.

At LW - take a walk over the rocks - lots of lost weights from the night before

You can fish at HW - an amazing 10-11m tide but it does race through, I could hold bottom with usual 5/6oz leads at LW easily and as the tide rises, if you can reach over the rocks casting, the weights still held okay.

Watch out for any swell at HW as it does wash over the platforms you might be on - the water does charge in on the flood so leave most of your gear on the rocks above - watch out for the rocks bloody sharp & very slippy !

Good luck

Re: Need tips for layde bay....

Very helpful, thanks. I didnt see too much litter there as the welcoming force 8 gale blew it away. The rocks were lethal, i did go down to retrieve rigs, but slipped on my ass all the time, to the raucous laughter of my brother on the ledge looking down. I did like the mark though, and on a calmer day, would have been better. I'll be fishing dragons teeth at chesil soon if anyones up for it.
