My start to 2008

I'll start by saying happy new year

Well seems i was back to work today i've been making the most of the last week fishing every day

Decided i was going to have a quiet new years eve for once and go fishing new years day hoping it would be nice n quiet up kingsbridge

In the end it wasn't worth it, blanked that day but was up there again on the second and managed my first flounder of 2008

Weighed 1lb 7oz and was the only fish of the day caught on ragworm

The next day i decided to stay a bit more local and went to St Johns lake at Torpoint

After flounder again but ended up with everything but a flounder

First a bass of about 1lb

Then a small silver eel, anoying little thing but its points

On the 4th i decided to get back up kingsbridge and tried a new mark

Not a touch all day until i had a run while casting my other rod out. My first thoughts were bass but ended up with this

Weighed 1lb 2oz but gave a fight better than a bass that size!

On the 5th i tried St John again and had another flounder

Weighed in at 1lb 6 and was the only fish of the day

That night i had lots of bait left over so thought i would have a go at the whiting in the Tamar

Decided to go saltash pier and had the rod rattling all night

Only one whiting but about 20 odd pouting, makes a change gettin bites all the time instead of waiting for the flounder

On the 6th i went up kingsbridge again to another new place but got crabbed out all day, blanked and it was raining to make it worse

This made up my mind to go up slapton and get catching again!

So went up to slapton that night and had a great night

caught a few doggies including the smallest dogfish i've ever seen

And plenty of whiting up to 1lb and small pout

That one was the biggest whiting and i also caught this

I thought it was a whiting but looked different from all the other whiting and had black spots going down its back like a pollack does so wasnt 100% sure if it was a whiting or not

Anyway nice start to 2008 and to the species hunt

Will be back up slapton again soon definately!

Re: My start to 2008

I can remember a time when i could fish every day for a week, it was directly before I was drugged and tricked into saying "I do" by the missus.

Congrats on the big haul of points, nice start to the species hunt.
