mevagissey wrasse

Hi me again. Went down to the harbour to day 1pm till 2:30pm had a bit of time on my hands before picking up the kids from school.Had some rag that was given to me so decided to have a fish,Set up a float rig,After some time fish on. A corkwing wrasse (I think it was) It was blue & brown. My first wrasse. Not long after 2 more all about 8 inchs,So very happy on the species hunt.Could anybody help me with which type of wrasse i caught? Thanks for reading my post. Since starting fishing this year (march 07) My species so far are Garfish,macky,horse macky,pollack,ray,bass,doggy,wrasse.So very happy with my start to sea fishing,With a bit of help from you lot thanks again martin.

prob a ballan or corkwring need to see if patern swirled on head and more "snouty£ for a corkwring

Well done, was down there in sept and wrasse bashing was great fun we had at least 80 wrasse each (lost count after that) to 3 1/2 lb all on rag and crab. Apparently the left hand wall holds the bigger fish but pretty snaggy.

There are a lot of Goldsinney Wrasse down Meva harbour wall and they usually have a small round mark near their tails. If it was a marbled colouration then they will be Ballans.

This yime of year there are usually small black bream to deep float fished sandeel fillets. Very good chance of a mullet on ledgered mackerel flesh straight down the wall. Some Golden greys show up there.
