| Birthday Bash - Aust 24/10/07 Catch Report The dreaded 40 caught up with me today BUT - a chance to ge out again and fish with a birthday pass. Headed up to Bristol from here in Devon and picked up my mate Alan on the way. A quick call into Veals at Highbridge and £10 of very good lug and some rag. Took a couple of wraps of black lug with me to which is a top bait in the channel. Got to Aust for around 5pm with high water at 6.40pm. We set up a few hundred yards to the left of the gate and the bank was surprisingly dry and mud levels low. Fished two rods, pennel pulleys with 3/0 wide gape hooks absolutely loaded with half a dozen worms each. Half an hour into the session first bite and a 3lb codling.  Over high nothing much but one small codling of about 1/2lb.  On the ebb a nice bite again and a reasonable flounder lip hooked on a 3/0 - very greedy!  Alan was just saying to me "think I might blank!", "Be positive" I said, "best on the ebb!". With that a tap tap on his rod and a codling for him (first this year) of around 1lb.  10 minutes later I had another of about 2lb.  Packed up when the water went and headed back to car. Very good night, good company and great to see some codling showing up the channel. Top way I reckon to spend your birthday. I feel 39 again!!!      |
