Aust 13/10/07 - Catch Report

Sorry for late post but PC blew its PSU so just had that changed and all working.

Fished Aust over the High morning water this last Saturday targeting coddies.

Cracking tide at around 12.5 metres so water just lapped a few feet over the bank.

Started the day trying to fish the Oil Tanks at Avonmouth. The gap in the fence is now fully closed so that was a wasted walk and disappointment.

Anyway, fished 2/0 clipped down rigs and blow / black lug cast 80m up tide. The two rods showing plenty of small bites and rattles - probably small flatties. One very solid bite resulted in this fine littel flounder.

Nothing over slack but on the ebb a very typical cod bite with a solid tap, tap and slack. Fish on and once I had wound tight to it felt like a good codling. Oh bugger though this managed to find a lump of grass bank and snag. A few minutes later when I had pulled out - NO FISH ON!

Two chaps next to me had a a small codling of a couple of pound so they are showing up there.

Give it a couple of weeks and I will be back.

Walked back to car and junior had managed to get himself covered in mud from toe to waste. Travelled home in his boxers shorts!

Re: Aust 13/10/07 - Catch Report

Well done mate, that's a good report and a nice flounder.

Shame about the codling but I have a feeling there'll be plenty more of them before the end of the year.

It can be very good here but do not fish on tides over 12.5 metres as you can be pushed right back up the grass or even cut off. Low water fishing is impossible except for a bank just passed the old bridge - scary stuff though and I dont bother. Smaller tides below 11m are a waste of time and a bit of westerly wind and chop improve the fishing.

When the coddies are about it is cracking fishing with several between 2lb to 5lb common.

Junior right into fishing now and hooked. He makes up fishing rods out of his "leggo" and "connects" and sits on the sofa at home pretending to fish. Took him to a trout farm the other day so he could pull a few out the stew ponds. He is looking at my fishing tackle with envoius eyes!

Thanks for the reply gilbo.
I will prob give it about a fortnight now, then drag my mate out of bed on a sunday morning after the saturday nght, ha!!
Nice to see the youngster in to it, i was like that and im still addicted, you best keep an eye on your tackle mate he be tying up his own deadly rigs next. I was as dirty as him fortnight ago when i went to lougher, i try and stay as clean as i can but always end up like the estuary bed.
Well look forward to hearing about your other fishing expeditions,
Huw
