Layde Bay 22/09/07

Visited Layde Bay for first time (thanks to Howie for directions), fished 3 up & 2.5 down, 9m tide, HT 16:20, weather: sunny spells with gentle SW? breeze.
Was quiet, angler & fishwise, with not much being caught by the few there.
I had 3 bites resulting in 1 fish, a nice little conger (shore pb), falling to whole squid on a 4/0, I will put a picture on when I find the lead to join camera to PC....kids .
No excuses for first bite, rushed it.. picked up the conger near top of the tide, third bite was just a rattle then nothing. 4th bite was a good strong pull, which turned out to be the bloke next door casting as badly as me .
Catches by other anglers, small conger, miniture whiting to the left, lug blanked to the right, further down a tiny whiting & a small conger. Reports of a few codling on Thursday.
Will be going back Tuesday for another look.

Re: Layde Bay 22/09/07

Glad you found it ok mate,
Sorry to hear that you did'nt catch any cod/codling at the moment,as i was just saying this on a different forum. As their seems to be cod/codling coming of around the southcoast, but the codling aint playing ball on the B.C as yet,but things could change very soon tho.How big was th conger you had?
I know a couple of members fished the B.c last night but im not to sure were abouts they fished tho,
Hope they managed to sneak out a couple of codlings tho
Best bait i have found out that works really well down laydebay is lug, rag, live peelers.thread 4 lug up thr h/l then 2 rag then either tip of with a whole peeler,or cut it in half.I have done this many a time and have always sniffed out codling when others havent.
Well if those guy's come back and report on this forum that they did'nt catch, then im going to stop giving out advise.
speak soon
howie

Conger only small, first caught from shore so it sets a p.b.
