Babbacombe pier.

Well I hadnt intended going fishing but I just couldnt sleep this morning. so at 6am I decided I might as well be fishing as lying here with my eyes open.

I Keep my rods set up in the car most of the time so all I had to do was grab a couple of mackie fillets from the freezer and I was on Babbacombe pier by 6:30.

I had been beaten by a Chinese man and his wife who were chicken chucking, I asked how they were doing and was informed they had caught 5 number 32's and 2 number 121's.

You would go a long way to find anywhere as beautiful in the early light, I was suprised the water was a little choppy considering there was hardly any breeze. I launched a dexter wedge out from the corner of the pier, and hooked a mackie within seconds, I use very light tackle and it gave my rod a good old bending. July was a washout for mackerel this year and August only marginaly better, so perhaps September will make up for it. I had been joined by another guy who set up feathers and soon caught a couple. The Chinese's bucket was filling nicely with number 32's. I was catching a regular stream of numbe...(Hu theyve got me at it now) Mackies. One more guy joined us and set up a float so I wound up my wedge and joined him, the other guy did likewise and we all caught. I had a couple of garfish which apparently have been prolific recently. I hate the stinking things.
I noticed One hung Lo was so impressed with our catch rate that he and his missus swapped to float too.
All in all it was very pleasant, I left them to it at 9am, we were already being invaded by masses of divers, most of whom were not using floats to indicate their presence, I think its very irresponsible because they were well with range of Feathers or spinners and i dread to think what damage could be caused. I tried hard but couldnt get one Lol. There is 4000 miles of sea from here to America so why oh why do they have to come within 10 yards of the pier.
So I returned home with 10 mackerel some of which were well plump. Ill give those to the neighbour who loves em and fillet the rest for bait. Now I feel like sleeping! but the wife has plans for decorating!!!!

Oh a word of warning, apparently last week several cars were clamped in the car park and its something like £120 to unclamp. So watch it.
