polperro and looe report

well with great weather and the missus palmed off with family i head in to looe to get onboard "swallow" (skippered by murry collins) and we head on out.
first we got some mackerel and i manged to the same as fisherdan and foul hooked a couple of pilcards (sorry i forgot the camera ) amongst the mackerel
next we head out to the reefs and drift for some pollock but thay just did not want to feed and after 3 hours ish we only had 4 pollock , so we anchored up and tryed for the big uns . we had 5 small conger and 7 small ling onboard in couple of hours, after that bit of fun we upped anchor and started drifting again for them pollock and again thay were hard work but we did manage another 6 or so
final score on day 1 4 pollock , 3 ling 1 conger and 2 pilcards

next day i tryed the harbour wall (in polperro) with some crabs and it was pritty poor, i manged 1 small wrasse and 1 goby

wednesday at 9 am i got on board swallow again, with big hangover (ooopppsss) still was good nite .
and we got the mackerel in the boat and went staight out and anchored a lump of rock , after a chat with the skipper he told me that he gets some nice red bream on this mark so i started targeting them , and no sooner had the bait hit the bottom i was in to a treble shot of 2 pollock and 1 ling. next drop was simaler with a double cuckoo wrasse(first ones iv ever had and one of the guys onboard emaild this piccy to me ) and a pollock,

and it went on and on like that for a while then i changed over to conger gear as i was plaged with wrasse and soon as that hit the bottom i was bringing it up again with a small ling hanging off it, the rest of the boat was all rigged up with conger gear and thay were all landing small conger up to 20lb 1 after another.
so for a bit of fun i set up my spinning gear with a mackerel flapper and conger trace, and after 2-3 minutes i was into a conger. and i could not stop laughing as i slowley played it to the surface and after 10-15 minutes it was up, as luck would have it it was about 25lb and the biggest so far . not long after that the lad next to me had a cracking bite on a pout flapper and after a good scrap he landed a cracking ling of 19lb, by far the biggest iv seen and best fish of the day by far
the day continued like that with plenty of conger to 30lb and resonable size ling , pollock and bloody wrasse till about 3pm and it was like a switch had been flicked off, it was dead again which was nice to relax after so much activity, towards the end of the day we had a fishery boat board us and check our fish for size and check out the skippers papers which on both accounts we passed with flying colours

final score for my last day was- lots of pollock, 6 ling ,6 conger and tons of cuckoo wrasse, but sadly no red bream

all in all it was a nice break from work with two great days out with a brillant skipper and great weather .
