Blue Anchor Friday 15 June

Decided to fish a couple of hours each side of the 7.40pm high tide last night as I'm likely to be preoccupied with the River Parrett for a while now.
Also decided to empty the freezer drawer of old bait so had Mackerel, Sandeel, Crab, Prawns, Squid in addition to a quarter of fresh Lug - More bait than any two anglers would normally carry.

Mrs L decided she would come along so the pressure was on not to blank.

There were a good few anglers already in place along the wall when we arrived at about 6.15 but a heavy shower between 7 and 8 thinned them out. Mrs L was sat in the car watching people pack up and wondering why she was teamed up with someone who seemed so unconcerned at getting soaked! For my part I was in the "I've brought this bait and I'm damn well going to use it mode".

The fishing picked up after the tide turned and I was able to show Mrs L several small Whiting and two Dogfish. The Whiting all came to fresh Lug and the Doggies to Mackerel.

I think Baggie or Pingu said in an earlier post that "Who dares wins" and it worked for me when I landed my first ever Smoothound. I accept it may be the smallest ever to appear on the Forum but it's a first for me and points for the SW Duo please. Mrs L kindly obliged with a couple of photo's....

Off to the Parrett shortly to see if I can avoid a blank on the opening day!!

Tight lines to everyone that gets out.

Re: Blue Anchor Friday 15 June

Not being a sea fishermen, I will probably be completely wrong, but looks like a small tope to me?

Well done anyway, was Mrs L impressed?

Good luck for later too.

Re: Blue Anchor Friday 15 June

Still haven't set off for the River.

Sorry about any confusion. As I've never seen let alone caught a Smoothound or a Tope I had trouble identifying such a tiddler. I'm more than happy to accept the judgement of other members as Steve and I haven't had either yet.
