Re: south-west slipways hi john i launch my boat from castletown in portland harbour this gives you access to the sea . but if it turns too rough you can allways just stay in the harbour. try this link for launch sites http://www.boatlaunch.co.uk/ __________________ fishing is fishing if you catch anything it,s a bonus

Re: south-west slipways Watchet has a nice easy slip into the new Marina but as with all along the Bristol Channel, access is top of the tide only and prices may be a bit steep? Porlock Wier is OK to launch into the inner harbour but access is limited to an hour or so either side of high water, barely possible at all on a neap. Not really a one day option, but moorings are only a fiver a night. You do avoid the nasty dogleg of Minehead's slip that way, plus get a lot further west. Lynmouth is similar but there are some serious hills getting into and out of town, the slip is very steep and the approach is through nasty looking reef. Not attempted it myself. Combe Martin also apparently has a slip, try Boatlaunch.co.uk for other possible sites. Steve

Re: south-west slipways Hi there i am on Bristol Channel and since they closed the slip into the Marina at Portishead, we are very short of slipways in the top end of the estuary. I am hoping to launch on the slipway at Beachley near Chepstow, just across from Aust by the old Severn road bridge. The slip is very good and accessible at all tides except the very lowest of the lows and the SARA lifeboat station is right by it. They use and maintain the slip and it's good to have them nearby too !! It's free too and the only warning I got from The SARA crew was to try to stay away on a hot summer's day when you can't move on the slipway for jetski trailers John B

hi John See my other post on sea fishing southwest forum - they are about to open (re-open) the slipway at Portishead Marina, but it looks to be horrendously expensive at £50.00 This covers launch and recovery (presumably using their launch vehicle) also secure storage of vehicle and trailer, also locking in and out of the Marina which means it's usable all day except one hour either side of low water. They know they have a monopoly and can charge this price - they are a very expensive up-market operation anyway and probably want to keep the Captain Pugwash characters in the Black Pigs away from the floating gin-palaces moored there ! I'm gonna try it once to see how it compares for cost and convenience to launching at Beachley near Chepstow (which is free) Regards ![]() John
