Re: how long can you keep bait

Refrezing squid is ok ,so long as its not gone pink, keep it in a cooler while your using it and you got a good chance of reusing it again.Try to avoid dumping a load in a bucket to defrost it,use em one at a time they soon defrost in the sea, even if you do get cold hands baiting up! and the rest in the box stay relativly frozen and as fresh as possible.Havin said all that,i`ve seen and caught some decent fish on "stinking" pink squid.

You can freeze proper Black lug ,but youneed to make sure they are gutted properly first.......

Re: how long can you keep bait

i wouldn't re freeze squid. it's cheep enough to buy so why use iffy bait when it just saves you a quid or so.

freezing blacks can be done. how you freeze them is up to personal preference, some freeze them in cellofane, some in paper, some in magazine, some blast freeze on the hook. i personally gut the worms(if not done already), wrap in newspaper for 12/ 24 hours (so it absorbs any liquid and blood) then re-wrap them in SLIGHTLY damp news paper.

you can refreeze blacks to use for flatties( they love em), the more you refreeze the smellier they will get but imo the smellier the better for dab/ sole.

hope this helps.

Re: how long can you keep bait

how to gut blacks-

if your on the beach/ pier then trow them hard onto the floor so they burst, if your at home then use a blade/ scissors to cut the head. pull all the guts out then lay them on newspaper, you should be able to wrap 10 worms in one piece of paper. but make sure they aren't touching each other.
