Newbie Fishing The Hamble/Itchen

I purchased a new 9ft spinning rod, spinning reel, 8lb line, and two bass wedges (one 15g, another 20g) today after borrowing someones setup last week and thoroughly enjoying myself.

I've a dinghy so won't be fishing from the shore and just looking for any advice on catching bass on both the Hamble or Itchen? Best spots, times and techniques etc.

The dinghy has a 8hp outboard and i wondered would trolling slowly along the river spook the fish?
