Total newb! Southampton fishing

Hey guys, hows it going.

Just wanted to say a quick hi; decided to join the forum specially after seeing that everyone seems to be really friendly and helpful!
Im a newbie at this fishing business, back in spain when I was younger I used to do speargun fishing, however the water is a bit cold over here for that kind of business.. is a bit murky round southampton where I live too!

Im a complete newbie at this, and I been browsing the site for tips and hints where to fish and how, and im struggling a bit with understanding the technical jargon you guys use!

I went fishing about a year ago in southampton pier..borrowed a rod... went along with a tin of spam that was about to expire from the cupboard...lol..
Suprisingly I caught two little fish and a couple crabs... oh yeah... I could only find MASSIVE hooks... so the fish I caught I ended spearing through the body :-(, not good, I know. Probably complete sacrilege with you guys so I apologise.

Well I would like to have another go soon, but the location didnt seem that great to be honest. I was wondering if any of you know whats the best set up that I should get, and if theres anywhere I could camp out the weekend and fish!

Re: Total newb! Southampton fishing

that sounds awesome,

From readin the forums it sounds like I need to get a 12 ft rod and go to gossport.

By the way, how do you guys stop the frikkin fish from stealing the rag worm?
I thread the little b*stards in but they always disapear.

And someone gave me one of those funky lights to put at the top of my rod, but in all honesty.. theyre a bit rubbish arent they...

Yeah I live in oxford street, not far! you cant be worse than I! I go fishing with SPAM!?

Re: Total newb! Southampton fishing

Best thing for you to do is jon , read through the south coast report sections , lengths of rods will vary i.e fishing off piers , beach but you really cant go wrong with a 12 ft beachcaster
