| woo hoo my first decent bass Well ive only been fishing for about 4 months or so after not touching a rod since i was about 18 and ive been out loads in search of fish. It started with the usual blanks and at bosham harbour caught loads of schoolies, while i see there bigger brothers n sisters jumping out of the water right round me, literally. Well i caught a nice one today, from the shore!! while waiting for my mates to come get me on their boat and that's when i got the picture taken. just weighed it and it was just, and i mean just over 3lbs so im well chuffed.  ive learned loads by reading this site most nights and think im starting to get the hang of the tides in relation to where the fish are etc. i also managed a plate sized thornback ray (i think!!) on staurday night at hayling lifeboat which was put back.  so i think im getting there after months of reading your threads and being spured on to learn/get better and ultimately catch bigger fish by seeing what you guys catch . thanks! | Re: woo hoo my first decent bass oh ive got the 'bug' aready ! been going out loads and at all times. but yeah now ive caught a nice one and have 'connected' with the fish in the fight i now have a different more intense need to catch the 'daddy' lol gave me a little fight and some side to side action before he gave in gracefully  Even when i blank a session i still have a grin on my face after, sat outdoors, peace and normally a lovely view etc........ but im sure the grinning after blanking will soon wear off  .i sure had i big grin on yesterday my mates boat is 'in progress' shall we say, although to be fair that was a stereo wire to a speaker outside on the hatch above my head reet pirate!we fished from the boat after they picked me up, we stopped halfway up the bosham chanel fishing right into low tide after the mullet, loads of fish about, and i mean loads, probably small ones as there were loads of good knocks but no real takes from anything big, just a few bass schoolies  .And i was also well chuffed with the ray, never caught a fish like that before. thanks for the replies and comments guys  Alex oh, i also noticed a bright orange buoy half way up.... i guy we know on his boat reconed it was 'commercial fishermen' as he put it  , doubtfull i thought.Anyway half hour or so later three guys came past i bit quick in a little plastic fishing boat with a cuddy, three big guys in full heavy rubber chest waders and no rods a black and a blond Labrador and they went past it down towards bosham quay then on past to cut mill. 40 mins an hour later they cam past again with one of them finishing off putting there big nets into large duffle type bags .......... i didnt see them touch the orange buoy but im sure it was theirs........... my vibe i got was that they were upto something dodgy. im pretty sure you cant net that far down an estuary |
