grrrrr chinese men!

i am sick to death of watching the chinese and indians keeping there tiny little shoal bass and pollock. yesterday i watch a chinese man catch 10 small bass in a space of 5 minutes. i kept them all in his bucket along with some mackerel. i had a go at him, really shouted, snatched his bucket from him, and chucket it in the sea and luckily all the fish were still alive. dont anyone else get anoyed at it? i think they should arange the enviromentle agencie thingy to hand out big fat lovely fines to them all. ill be happy then

Re: grrrrr chinese men!

Hi, Iam new to all this forum stuff, just joined tonight. I work for the EA and I am sorry to tell you but it's not our remit guys (fixed nets is another thing). You need to get in touch with your local Southern Sea Fisheries Office(r). I am a dead keen Bass angler, live in Pompey, and it saddens me to hear about all those imature fish being slaughtered for no good reason. This is totally unsustainable and the legislation is there for a reason. It just needs good intelligence to enable effective responses from my colleagues on the salty side of things.
Hope this helps chaps.

Is there a list available somewhere of local phone numbers that we can call?

Re: grrrrr chinese men!

Be careful. It's not an ethnic thing on SPP.
For 20 years I've been educating the truants and undisciplined (climb-under-with-a-handline brigade) with some results!

The number for reporting the taking of undersized bass is Southern Sea Fisheries at 01202 721373.
Activity tends to be 'muted'!
However, there is an Environment Officer (SSF, NOT EA) in Portsmouth.

I have his number, but I suggest you go through the main office.

Re: grrrrr chinese men!

Hi Gremlin,

I have witnessed people from all walks of life knocking undersized Bass over the head on the pier and nearly got into a bit of hassle with a local alchy who was taking them to sell at his local pub. The buyers were obviously not all of ethnic origin. cheers for putting the contact details out there for anyone interested in reporting some of those responsible to do so.

I'm afraid that's going to be more commonplace in the present climate.

Education helps; but the 'enforcers' need to up the ante' as well!

Poole (SSFDC) is a sleepy town and quite a way away.
Woe betide the guys who disturb the terns or cockles around Sandbanks!

Re: grrrrr chinese men!

I am gobsmacked that this is still happening in that area, since there was a bbc tv report only a few months ago about the taking of small bass by the chinese comunity, why didnt the authorities do something about it then ? seems to me they are happy to spend public money but not to do a great deal for it.
Is it not time we as recreational fisherman got out the pen and paper and write to the athorities, goverment, the EU, local press, this mass slaughter of undersized fish, get all the fishermen a bad name, even the responsible fishermen and the effects of this will show in years to come.

WOULD THE ADMINSTATORS OF THIS SITE BE AGREEABLE FOR PEOPLE TO NAME AND SHAME THESE PEOPLE, or at the very least show the photos of the offenders?
