lymington mini report just to claim my points

Well Lee will be posting a report on the day so I will just give a brief report of my bit so I can claim my points for today

We were supposed to fish Hurst Castle in a NASC competition. I am not a competition type guy so went along for the social.

Got to Hurst castle and it was unfishable, a force 6 straight in the face and a spring tide due, so we re-located to Lymington.

here is us all set up

I had no luck all day, tried in close, out to the deep and still not even the crabs wanted my bait, the tide came in and started to go out and I thought it is a Blankety Blank in the making.

then about 30 minutes before time was called, having bought both rods into 6 feet of the harbour wall and about 10 feet deep right next to the weed, hoping something might feed there, I saw a little tickle on the line. I went close to the rod and it was a definite small bite. Lee shouts over " you got a bite?" I replies "yes" and lifted the rod in to strike it and it went solid.
S**T it is more weed, and I was all snagged in the weed, As I tried it unsnag it I pulled it free and noticed a small fish on the bottom hook, it must have dived into the weed and snagged me up

Here it is with it's little fat bell full of limpets I guess

I am pretty sure this is a rock goby also known as a Rock blenny, seen a couple in last years species hunt ( pingu had one I believe).

the crowd gathered as we tried to work out what it was, it was deeply hooked, probably from me trying to free my line from the weed, so I unfortunately had to cut the line at the hook and let nature deal with it, I was going to harm it more trying to disgorge it.

Well I left the day happy I had not blanked and hopefully another 1.5 points in the Rusty Nuts war chest.

Mike
