At Long Last

Hi all,

Well at long last we got out. First trip since July.

With the winds showing 5 - 6 south westerlies 9 of us including Ralph, Jon B and myself left Portsmouth Harbour at 0800hrs for a 45 minute journey to the back end of the Isle of Wight.

Although glad to get out I was a little unsure of the fishing, the sea was quite choppy but not uncomfortable, and for the first time in over 2 years I drew a position on the back of the boat.

Other than the inevitable Doggies the first decent fish of the day was taken by the chap fishing next to me, a Smoothie of about 4lbs, shortly after that I had a decent knock and when I struck into it I thought another Doggie, but nobody was amazed as I was when a 6lb Bass broke the surface. My first of the year.

Well that was that, with nothing else of any interest being caught until after lunch. We moved inshore a few hundred yards as the weather deteriorated, another Smoothie was netted by the same person and Andy, a Sea Juice regular had a Bass of 3lbs. I had a small Bream that I used as live bait which was magically transformed into a Scad from the first hook to the second hook of my 2 hook paternoster?????.

We eventually headed back to the harbour arriving back at 1600hrs for the long journey home.

All in all an enjoyable day out with good company, the fishing was as expected with the bonus of a Bass. Species caught, 2 Smooth hounds - 2 Bass, numerous Doggies, Pouting, Scad and a Bream.

Sorry there are no pictures, (I must remember to pack the camera in future) maybe next week when Ralph, Dave and I hope to be out on Tango Bravo (Poole) on a deep sea wrecking trip for Bream.

Re: At Long Last

Well done Drew, you must have had a bumpy ride back to port as it was blowing its head off at Lee on Solent.
