High drama, 7lb and 4lb bass yarmouth IOW

As the channel would have been unfishable due to hi winds we decided to fish in the solent to shelter from the bad weather. First spot we visited was full to the hilt!!!! Second spot we visited was also full to the rafters (2 fixed venue comps as i have later found out) so we plumped for an unsheltered spot in yarmouth. Fishing was slow as hell, bad crab trouble and weed, but we thought the turn of the ebb may help us. Bang on high water my mate nicky started `speed walking` towards his rods with an inquisitive look on his face, he called me over to show me one of his rods had completely vanished!!!!! He picked up his other rod, and lucky enough the lost rod was tangled in the other and the tip light was visible in the water. I carried on reeling in the other rod as nick waded in and managed to grab the wandering rod butt, and the fish was still on!!!!
After a few long seconds of untangling the rods nick was into the fish that had tried to make of with his rod, then we saw it gliding across the water in a ball of weed. Finally it was beached, and after all the drama, he was rewarded with a bass 1oz shy of 7lb!!!
Just before all this had happened i had decided to change from my useual sole rigs to a whole squid on a 4/0 hook. Walking back to my rods my other mate had noticed my line seemed to be VERY slack! On closer inspection my line was not only dropped onto the beach , but also tangled in alot of weed on the shoreline. Eventually untangled, i reeled in my slack and was also rewarded with a bass of 4lb that must have been on the hook for 15/20 mins !!!!!!
Then the nigh went quiet......
