Re: Gone to the DOGS – Budleigh 25/09/06

great read rich!!

dont worry mate im trying like you to get myself a decent sized bass and i cant find one anywhere!.. (although i must confess ive found several to 2lbs)

one day a big one will come along

just a question for the anglers further up the coast towards the solent

when using big baits in the surf do you :

A) pennel rig them? (if so 3/0 hooks?)

B) still use a shock leader? (i think using a shock leader maybe where im going wrong!)

[yes, but not always, 3/0 is a good size for whole squid / large sandeel or big macky baits . u need to make sure that sml hooks are not masked by large baits.

still till use a shock leader? (i think using a shock leader maybe where im going wrong!)
i do, although if fishing real close with just a gentle lob its not really nessacery but with one attached there's no hassle if i wish to change to distance casting, bare in mind that i mostly fish in darkness in daylight the thick leader may be putting them off
