Hurst Castle - 31st August

Did the walk to the castle and back again today, caught loads of bream upto about 1lb most about half lb, spent quite a lot of the day spinning, and manged three garfish all taken to a 28gm dexter on 10lb line, first couple were a decent size and put up a bit of a fight.

All the bream were taken on squid or rag tipped with squid.

As usual I arrived about 10 minutes after the mackerel had disappeared, so my freezer is now totally emptied of any mackerel for either bait or barbie!

Finally rigs, on both beachcasters I had two hook flappers with size 4 hooks on 20lb snoods, 6 oz gripweights, upped one of the rigs to 1/0's loads of bites (bream) but only one big enough to get on the hook, all the other bream (about 16) taken on the size 4's.

A most enjoyable day's fishing.

Re: Hurst Castle - 31st August

Well done Tony, sounds like a frantic session.

I know what you mean about the mackie. I need some for the freezer as well, but they seem a bit thin on the ground (In the sea???) now.

Nice report mate.

Rich.

Thumbs up Re: Hurst Castle - 31st August

Well done Tony. Glad to hear about some Garfish being caught, not had one yet this year. Mackies have been a bit patchy too.

Re: Hurst Castle - 31st August

Lee, yes six once grips will hold on the flood if you keep the isle of wight to your right hand side, as soon as the ebb starts so does the rip, only way to hold bottom then is to move so the isle of wight is in front of you, move right to the left next to the first few groins and you should be able to hold bottom then on a medium tide, bigger than that and I reckon you'll need to learn to cast with a jcb attached!
