Pompey lastnight

Went out for a few hours lastnight in the continued quest for a double figure Bass(we can but hope)
Picked Rob (maghouse) up at about 2030 and headed to the beach.
No sooner had we cast out then the heavens opened, all we needed now was weed and i would have gone home, but for once the weed mainly stayed away
First few casts were bog standard two hook clip downs and three hook flappers which produced a few bream and a lonesome pout.
I then changed both rods to running legers with 3/0 pennels.
Bait was either half a mackerel /garfish or a bunch of squid.

This was dropped in very close 10 yards (ish) in the hope of a big bass.
Within minutes of casting out half a macky i had a great bight, rod pullled over then springing back.
I wound down and skillfully missed it,upon retrieval the mackerel had gone and somehow the fish had missed both hooks
Another mackerel was chucked out all of 5 yards into about 2 ft of water and minutes later the rod went over again .
This time the fish was hooked and turned out to be a nice bass of 4-5lb.

Remind me to smile next time
Things then slowed till about an hour after high tide,Rob was still catching plenty of bream to worm but the bass were thin on the ground.
Just when you think thats it for the night over goes the rod and i thought i had a very good fish on ,not to be tho it turned out to be a nice bass but not a monster of about 3lb ish.
This fish had also taken half a macky.
Not to be outdone Rob then had a bass of a couple of pounds to a great big squid, other bights were also missed .
A good night was had by all,not many fish but quility ones.
PS No Bass were harmed in the making of this post, all were returned to get caught by a trawler
