| Re: Hurst Shingle - Saturday 19th - Catch Report Picked up Bait from Poingdestre's: Rag, Squid, Sandeel and a back-up mackerel just in case they didn't show. Spent the rest of my birthday money on a new toy or two, and off we went to Hurst. Arrived at Hurst about 1330, blowing a good 'un but fishable except for the cursed weed, lost a couple of rigs before deciding to retreat from the rocks onto the shingle to conjur up a cunning plan! Decided to walk the bank and fish the castle - now I've heard a few horror stories about the walk and it is bloody long, but all things considered it wasn't that bad, although the return trip at midnight seemed to go on forever. When we got there a local chap explained how the tide worked and that you fish with the isle of wight on your right when the tide is flooding and then just after slack on the ebb you up sticks and walk 40 metres across so the isle of wight is in front of you and bob's your uncle you can hold bottom. Same bloke also put me bang on the mackerel when i couldn't seem them and told me how to find the bream ('cos i wanted a biggun for the barbie!) Fished with 2 x two hook flappers (swapping one with feather for the mackies every now and then). Size 4 and 6 hooks on the bream rig using rag tipped off with mackie or squid. The other rig was set up with 2/0 fishing with whole squid lumps of mackerel. Caught about a dozen bream - including a couple in excess of a 1lb (took them home for the barbie). Caught 6 mackies and a little bass. My mate caught a gurnard - lovely looking fish. Had some big bites on the other rod but my unique combination of laziness, disbelief and general stupidity cost me a couple of decent fish. So I didn't get my bass but I did have a cracking day's fishing and will be going back there soon. Reckon it could be just the spot for a summer forum meet? |

| Re: Hurst Shingle - Saturday 19th Nice one Tony. There was a forum meet there before, and it didn't go so well as some may tell you. Although I think it may have been winter time... __________________ Dan `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ Big or small, look after them all! ¸.·´¯`·.¸ ><((((º> |
