Re: So, did anyone catch at the weekend???

I had a pretty good weekend. Just fishing off of Princess Pier in Torquay (float and bottom)

Over the weekend ended up with almost a dozen mackerel for bait, half a dozen pollock, half a dozen dog fish, few scad and a grrrrrfish... ok, garfish :)

Re: So, did anyone catch at the weekend???

Nah, just float and bottom.

It's really strange this year because all the mackerel I see being caught are on floats. I can watch people feathering all day long and maybe catch the odd one or two whereas the float fisherman are pulling them in by the truck load.

It has been a strange year this year with a number of odd things happening which is why even when you think you know the place your fishing at you should still experiment constantly.

Last night was a good example. The mackerel on the Princess Pier in Torquay are normally caught between 10 and 15 foot. Yesterday we were catching them at 3 to 6 foot. I took out 4 yesterday that have never or hardly ever fished before and if I didn't drill into them to change depth and bait often I'm sure we would have walked away last night with nothing.
