| Southsea this morning Well i managed to persued a mate of mine to give me a lift down southsea this morning as i cant drive due to the pot on my leg. We got there about 3.45,not much gear just a spinning rod each to catch some mackerel for breakfast. Arrived on the pier to find quite a few people already there, two blokes had a bucket each full of undersize pollock(prats )Pollock is a poor eating fish at the best of times so what they wanted with 30-40 of them god knows? I dont like fishing the pier really as it does atract the uneducated moronic few in our sport, you tell them about the small fish and get a big f off etc.Rant over Anyway it was a beutifull morning as the midsummer sun rose over the mirror like sea and we caught a few mackerel to boot, all of good size. We ve just finished them for breakfast, from sea to plate in 2 hours i dont think there is a better eating fish when they are this fresh.Cheers John PS i did take my camera but the battery was dead ![]() __________________ One day i will post a catch report again. |

| Nice one Gully, nothing better than an early morning fishing trip. Can't beat fresh mackeral tosed in wholemeal flower and pan fried in butter with Rosemary a la Clovelly Skipper Clive. |

| Nice one John. Totally agree about the fresh mackies. The stuff you see in supermarkets is well past it's sell by date & usually stinks. I enjoy going down Chesil with a disposable barbecue. Catch a mackie, head off, guts out, quick rinse in the sea & onto the barbecue while its still flapping. Thats what you call fresh. None of this stale 2 hour old stuff!!!
