Bombing Range

Decided to have a look at the sea on Friday night because it was blowing a NEerly to check for weed. Noticed a bloke sat in his car loaded with fishing gear had a word with him and it turned out to be Codhead who was deciding where to fish. I told him about a better spot and said I would join him in an hour.

Met up with him and rigged up a three hook boom rig with squid and worm baits, chucked this out and started to rig second rod. Then noticed a bite on first rod, a small starry smoothound which had taken squid, on the first cast. finally got both rods in the water and after having chin wag with codhead went back to check the rods and reeled in a small plaice, not much bigger than the hook, still two fish on two casts, abfab.

It went quiet for a bit then had a nice bite and another starry smoothound about 3lbs which took ragworm. I had some fresh caught peeler crab that never got touched tried both rod and rigs at all distances but not a sniff. I think I have caught more fish on squid than anything else.

A bit later I had a small bream that was not a black or a gilthead. Posted pics to Richard so if he gets them and posts them perhaps someone can tell me what it is.

Anyway the pout then appeared I think I caught about ten then called it a night at midnight an hour after high water.

Nothing very big but a lovely nigh and good company. I left codhead on the beach still fishing hope he bagged up. Hope hes ok hes got a pic of my first smoothound.
