smoothounds last night

[Ben]

headed down the beach last night with acouple of novice fishing friends
hw at 10.30, started at 7
bait for the night was rag, squid and hermit mainly fished on big hooks for big fish
i started off tryna get my 1st bream of the year befor it got dark but that didnt happen, i was getting a schoalie almost ever cast though
once it got dark i had a small smoothound of about 1/2lb and then an eel
my friend matt then pulled in another eel
after about an hour or so my other friend had the tell tail smoothound bite of his rod getting dragged it and he was into a fish
turned out to be a nice smoothy of about 8lb, he was chuffed to hell with that, his 1st fish bigger than a schoalie
i then went and had a run which i skillfully missed on hermit
within no time jay was in again and i was just about to grab a similar sized fish from the surf when the top hook went
that was it for the night, i had another slack line bite and 1 cracking run on whole squid which came off the hook about half way in
good nights fishing, plenty of other smoothounds were caught/lost along the beach as well
