Re: Chesil Beach / Slapton

Forget Chesil unless you want to wait around 6 hours for a Rockling.
Honestly it is not worth fishing. It never is during January - March. You will get a few dogfish and pout but it is not worth it if you have to travel. However if you are ofter specimen fish then you could do far worse than giving Portland a go for a big Ballan Wrasse. The big fish always come in January. Pete Hegg's 9lb 2oz British Record was caught from Pulpit at this time of year. There has been som erealy nice Wrasse already this year includig 2 over 7lb.
Portland Harbour is fishing well for Flounder and Bass. Greenheart had a Bass just short of 5lb a couple of weeks ago from it.

Re: Chesil Beach / Slapton

Thanks for that, but I was thinking more along the lines of codling.

Re: Chesil Beach / Slapton

There has been no Codling to mention from Chesil since December. Even after that decent blow we had a couple of weeks ago there was hardly anything caught then.

Re: Chesil Beach / Slapton

not sure about slapton pixy but i havent heard of any codling from there...
however berry head and the nose have both produced well.. including one of over 11lbs from the platform! in the last fortnight i have seen maybe 40 fish caught from berry head..

personally i prefer hopes nose i seem to have better luck down there but i have only been there twice this year and both times ive seen codling landed none of them on my hook though

but with the wind set to blow from the east for this week at least it doesnt look promising.. im spending this week servicing reels ect and hoping the weather will break at the weekend!

Re: Chesil Beach / Slapton

lol i thought u might..

the fish ive seen caught have been on crab baits (good luck getting crab!)

but ive also been told by reliable sources that lug and squid is working well and again good luck on getting the lug both baits seem to be rare as.... at the moment.

Re: Chesil Beach / Slapton

Devon Dave, if you need lug go to Clive's in Plymouth, or dig in the Plym. There's plenty to be had there.
