Advice on a decent place to fish!

Hi guys,

Haven't posted for a while, but it seems I am going to have an opportunity to fish on Friday evening with a mate from work. Neither of us have much of a clue where to fish from the shore though. I have tried Seaton beach a few times now and blanked on every occasion. We are willing to travel anywhere between Exmouth and Lyme Regis.
Any suggestions (sensible ones preferred), baits etc would be greatly appreciated, and of course if anyone wants to join us then feel free. The more the merrier.

Cheers in advance, Darren

Re: Advice on a decent place to fish!

Hi Darren,

As I've not long started fishing, I've only managed Budleigh and Ladram bay so far.

I managed to blank at Budleigh on Monday, but Pingu had a couple of whiting (I think it was on lug). Normally you get loads of doggies and pout, and they'll pretty much take anything, although sand eel seems to be particuarly good. Rag works okay as well, as does mackerel. You're better off parking on the road in front of the beach as the lime kiln car park has started charging this year, which is a pain. (Still only seen 2 traffic wardens in Budleigh this year, but why risk it when the road is always empty and free?)

Ladram is a nice beach to fish as well. Park in the holiday camp car park and wonder down the slip to a fantastic little bay dominated by a huge sea stack. Best to fish on the left (When looking out to sea) of the stack as the right hand side can be a little snaggy. The same baits should do the trick, producing pretty much the same fish, although Ping had a Bull Huss from here and it's suppossed to produce good Bass as well (Might be a little late by now though). I love this place. When you get a clear night and a full moon the bay looks fantastic.

Like I say, I've not been on the beach for very long, I'm sure some others will be along to correct me in due course and fill in the massive stretch of coast to Lyme Regis.

Cheers and tight lines,

Rich.

Re: Advice on a decent place to fish!

Cheers Rich. We were considering Budleigh anyway, but having read your post yesterday I was giving it second thoughts!!! I've got to be honest, I have caught very little from the shore, a couple of small bass at Teignmouth, loads of mackeral during the summer, and a few whiting in Brixham harbour when I was living that way.
As they keep saying on the TV, seek out the local knowledge. That's all very well, if the locals want to tell you about their secret marks. If I had a quiet little place that regularly produced good fish, I'd be loathed to tell the world and his wife, and ruin it for me!!

Might see you on the beach somewhere sometime. I've been out with Pingu before down at Seaton, when he nearly lost his rod, only for his leader knot to give!! That's fishing (Or not checking your knots for months )

Cheers, Darren

Re: Advice on a decent place to fish!

Cheers Dave. I'm still up for persevering with Seaton as it is so close. Problem is, it does get a bit disheartening when you catch naff all time after time!!
Hopefully will see you friday, you've still got my number if you fancy it.

Cheers, Darren

Re: Advice on a decent place to fish!

Hmmm.......decisions, decisions. I guess it would be best to go for Budleigh. I haven't fished there before, and my mate suggested it anyway, plus it's a bit closer for you and Baggie. We were talking about fishing from about 7ish, but I'm early turn saturday so I can't stay until the end .

Still, hopefully Ill have such a lead that you'll never catch up even with the extra fishing time

Anyway, back to the point, me and my mate Luke will be at Budliegh for 7. Where did you fish last time, to the left of the cafe as you look out to sea? Also, what bait would you suggest. I've half a pack of squid in the freezer, but I guess worms are the way to go for whiting.

Looking forward to it, and your legendary pies, one each for me and my mate would be luvvverrrly.

Cheers, Darren

Re: Advice on a decent place to fish!

Sorry guys, can't make Fri as I've already arranged a visit to Exeter to see a mate, so I was going to head out tonight. Made up the rigs as instructed by Pingu (Although worried about the snoods being a touch on the short size. about 3ocm ish).

Would love to get out and try Seaton though, so let me know the next time you're out.

Tight lines.

Rich.

Re: Advice on a decent place to fish!

ok normally go to the main beach just before the road rises so just before railings start, then walk stright over to sea, as free parking !!!
best baits worm and makkie at moment, but squid worth a bash as well
pies will be made , anyone else fancy coming along its a big beach!!!
