Jo Dan 29/10 Report

Boat Bottom Fishing 29 Oct 2005

John Marshall organised a good days fishing on the Jo Dan IV out of Portsmouth

Only four forum members, John Marshall, Andy G, Imran and I were present and John made up the crew with four BT Ex-Carnage members, Lenny, Jim, Bruce and Tom

We all met up at the café at the entrance to the marina at 7 am, bleary eyed but looking forward to some big fish.

We left the berth at 7.30 and powered out to the fishing ground that was approx 10 miles east of the Isle of Wight and 10 miles south of the mainland..

The Jo Dan is a catamaran with an island cabin, for all round fishing, with lots of power and all the latest electronic aids. Whilst the twin hull stops the roll of a single hull, the boat seemed to bounce through the waves, with some unexpected movement. I certainly felt a bit ‘tom and dick’ and Imran looked a bit dodgy but neither of us put any groundbait down.

The fishing got under way after John conned us into £5 for the heaviest fish. Unfortunately no PBs were achieved except for me. It’s the first time I have spent a day on a boat without pulling anything - had a few nibbles though.

The fishing results were:

Andy G - Smoothhound, doggies and pout
Imran - One dog (all day) – I thought I saw him catch more but John said just one dog
John Marshal - 10lb Pollock and doggies
Me - I just enjoyed the day

You should have seen the tears in Andy’s eyes as he handed the five one pound coins over to John, in the pub, at the end of the day.

JohnMs lovely Pollock

Irman think of the one that got away

Andgy giving it his all

Nah John's pollack was probably nearer 12lb but the only other fish worth mentioning were my smut at about 5lb and Jim (Ex CC) caught one a bit smaller. I also lost a little one at the side of the boat.

Not sure Ben, but you were meant to be on this one and cancelled to go shore fishing if I remember correctly!?

John gave me his pollock as a consolation prize and it weighed 9lb 3 oz without its guts and after drying out a bit.

Knowing andy bet he came up with a few reasons why not to pay and I can only guess what his face was like ( cannot win them all mate )

Well done John once again you did it on a hard days fishing

Hi Guys,

Ben, don't let AG (lost on the day) get to you, next trip is 26/11/05 and you're down for it.

It was a hard days fishing in the face of a SE 5, the company was great as always.

Thanks to Jim de Fruit for the report and pics.
