Meridian Express Report 29.05.05

Today I fished with Richard, John, Drew, Ralph, Dave and others on the boat Meridian Express from Portsmouth.

It was an early start, 6.30am and we motored out to a wreck which we drifted a few times and then anchored over slack water for conger. Most of us got an eel.

When the tide started to run we went to a reef and drifted it for the rest of the day. Drew was one of the first into the fish and landed a nice cod. As the tide built up there was a steady flow of fish coming on board, mainly pollack, but there were some very nice cod landed too, one of them by me, 18lb - very chuffed:

As the tide increased the bites became very scarse indeed. Then as the tide eased the fish came back on the feed, but unfortunately it was then time for us to go home, but not before I had a nice pollack and then fluked this incredible fish........... a John Dory of 4lb.

So, I had an excellent day, everything I caught came on a 6" storm shad, (white with a red head) and none of us blanked. We also had mackerel, doggys & pout. For those of you who don't boat fish - you've gotta give it a go.

I'm sure more will be added by the others, I've gotta go and fillet my fish.

Thanks to everyone fishing today for the company.

Re: Meridian Express Report 29.05.05

Well what a lovely boat and the skipper worked all day giving advice and help with the fish . The Meridian Express has loads of room ( you can fish all the way round the deck ) and a smashing ride

First time I have fished from this marina and it was great to see a car park was for free plus trollys to lug your tackle to the boats ( why all marinas do not have these )

My day was a disaster , just could not get anything right and if it was going to go wrong it did . But hay we all get thoughs days

On the anchor I got a conger of about 18-20lb on the first drop down on whole mackeral . With a two pound lead and the tide I felt like I was pulling up a tank

So with the conger release by the side of the boat to fight another day I went mackeraling for bait for the rest of the crew . With a bit of mackeral I sent down a small strip to see what was about and you guessed it up came a dogfish ( 35 mile offshore LOL )

Had a pollock on a dexter wedge ( yes I was trying everything to get a fish ) which was only about 10lb

So with only about 30 mins to go before we headed back I packed up as I was on my knees

I guess what the fish came on

Top marks to the skipper as the time was up , but he still gave the guys an extra five difts for the fish

So with my bad luck out of the way things will improve for me for my next boat trips

Top marks to andyg with a wonderful 4lb John Dory ( just cannot believe he is out agian today )

Great company and a great day
