smut action last night!

me, bill and john headed off to a beach somewhere the other side of pompey yesterday night (not quite sure where) hoping for abit of smut action
after quite abit of drivng around he got to the beach and started setting up, quite abit of weed but only very close in as me and bill found out on our 1st casts, rod tips needed to be high!
1/2hr later of removing weed and i was ready to go again, 1 rod was half a peeler on a pulley rig which went flying out ok with my new 525 mag, next rod was a 2 hook boom rig with macky and sand eel on using an ol fixed spoil reel, wopppps!!!! messed up the cast and sliced half the skin off my finger
it was starting to shape up like a bad session, not even john had a fish on his 1st casts but then through the wind and the rain, i noticed a whopping bite on my boom rig! after a small scrap i victoriously raised the 1st fish of the night and a new pb for me, my 1st ever shore caught pout! (no pic sorry) not to be out done john then pulled in 2
by this point bill had finally got his rods in the water, we all gathered round and watched patiently as he got his 1st bite, it was unsure to what it was but he struck! and it was a doggie
i then noticed my rod going and managed to skillfully land 2 prime doggies, also a new pb for me, 1st ever shore caught doggie and 1st every double shot from the shore things were looking up i was thinking
while i unhooked my doggies john suddenly ran over to his rod, acouple of mins later the 1st smut of the night was landed!!!!!!!!

it was probably about 4lb but we were dead happy, as you can see by his face
pout and doggies had gone by now but the crabs were still about
i missed a smut bite , the smuts seemed to be hitting the bait and heading towards the shore which made it hard to hook them, not long after john had landed another smut, this time abit bigger, maybe 6lb
acouple more missed bites for me and then bill was in! a short scrap later and lovely smoothound weighing about 7-8lb was landed, bills 1st smut from the shore

the tide had turned now and it all went very quiet and hard to fish because of the weed
the total for the night was;
bill- 1 doggie, 1 smut
ben- 2 pout, 2 doggies
john- god knows how many pout, 2 smuts

all in all a very enjoyable night, i think i have just about dried off but my finger still hurts

Great mark John, well sussed.
Still soaking wet and a few aches but worth it anytime.
I wonder how many we would have had if it wasnt so weeded.

i recon if we had more crab and less weed we would have got more, and maybe if i could cast further
although i found it easier casting with my multi after dark when i couldnt see whree it was going
i had 2 birdies before it got dark

It's a pity that tomorrow is cancelled, are you fishing anywhere tomorrow????
