Re: Bass In The Teign I think you'll find it's illegal to fish for bass (or any species of fish for that matter) in the Teign estuary with sand-eel at this time of year. At the end of April the Teign estuary became a designated bass nursery. Until 1st November fishing for bass from a boat in the estuary is prohibited as is shore or boat fishing for any species using sand-eel as bait. I'm afraid the nice young lady was risking a pretty hefty fine. You'll find all the information you need here... Bass Nurseries

Re: Bass In The Teign I have heard there have been a few bass caught from teignmouth bridge, the one that you were on about weighed just onder 4lb. the lady in question brought the fish down to show us, where she went on to get more eels for later trips. __________________ Nothing grows faster than a fish from when it bites until it gets away.

Re: Bass In The Teign Many Thanks For The Info But As Far As I Know This Does Not Apply When Not Fishing From A Boat If Anybody Can Shed Any Light Please Feel Free To Comment. Ther Are Many Anglers Who Do Fish With Live Sandeels But Not From A Boat. Maybe Luke May Know A He Catches The Sandeels.

Re: Bass In The Teign as far as i am aware, it is alright to use sand eels from the shore. the fisheries patrol have stopped people using sand eels from the boat but once they got back to shore nothing was said to the dozen or so anglers from the shore. i realise it says it in on the website about no use of sand eels, but whilst talking to fisheries patrol they mentioned nothing about not using them from shore, so until they do, i will carry on using them __________________ Nothing grows faster than a fish from when it bites until it gets away.

Re: Bass In The Teign They are the same as last yr, £4 a scoop for about 40-50 eels, at the moment they are all eel and no launce with all the eels being a nice size. which is a change!!! The closing time all depends on how much they catch in a day, normally its around 6 o clock. __________________ Nothing grows faster than a fish from when it bites until it gets away.

Re: Bass In The Teign It would be handy to clarify this - the wording on the DEFRA site is a bit unclear as whether the sand-eel ban only applies to boats or to all fishing in the estuary. I've fished out of Shaldon myself during the summer and would really appreciate knowing where you stand legally as regards using live sand-eels from the shore.
