| Poole Quay 14th Jan Had a few hours fishing Poole Quay with Jerry Two Jackets. We had been hoping to fish the harbour for some of the big flounder that had been showing recently, but a heavy frost didn't help matters with most reports saying it had pushed them out into deeper water. Tide times were not ideal & unless we planned on fishing all night, we would have to find some deep water that we could fish at low tide. The wind speed was up around 20mph & very cold, so we elected to fish the Town Quay which has deep water & some shelter from the wind. We fished from around 2pm until 10pm ish. Rigs were flapper rigs baited with ragworm. Crabs were a problem from the off & were stripping our baits within minutes & even removing the occasional hook. The flounder did not want to know & as the tide started to run, weed became a problem too. We did manage one fish each. Jerry had a tiny pollack & I had a pin Whiting, so at least we didn't blank. But with the cold wind, crabs & weed it was very hard work. The only bonus was that I picked up my first points for the species hunt. ![]() ![]() __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: Poole Quay 14th Jan The photos are fuzzy because Ian was shivering... Temperature was forecast to be min 6 degrees, but with the constant wind it felt a lot colder. We'd have stayed longer, but the backdrop of bars and restaurants was a constant reminder of the comfort we'd sacrificed just to wet a line, and in the end we decided that 6 hours sittin' on the dock of the bay watchin' the tide roll away was quite long enough, thanks all the same. Tragically, we left just a tad too late to catch last orders on the way home, so that's definitely a lesson for the future ![]() |
