Chale in the daylight

Not something I would normally do, but having been told the Rays can be caught in daylight hours in January from here, and the weather so mild it seemed a crime to go to work, so I went fishing instead!
Arrived for 9am and took the climb down, though damp it wasn't slippery under foot, and after a 10 minute trudge along the shingle I was set up.
Sandeel on a clip down rig on one rod and whole squid on a pennel on the other, hit as far as I could mange.

The weather was gorgeous for the time of year, with only a slight sea breeze.




After half hour I had a small rattle on the squid, when I brought it in it was shredded, so changed over to a scratching rig, smaller hooks and strips of squid, thinking it might be whiting. I perservered with this for over an hour but had no more bites. So I decided I wouldn't get a Bass or cod on that so went back to using whole squid on a pennel.
An hour passed then after a coupe of good nods the rod bent hard round and I was in, thinking either a Bass or hoping for a codling but in came a Ballan Wrasse on the whole squid. Not what I was expecting, but beggars can't be choosers and I was happy catching anything, besides at 2lb 2oz it wasn't a bad fish.



Well I stayed till 4pm no more bites and the sandeel hadn't been touched all day. But I'd caught and spent a lovely day on the beach, which I had all to myself, so can't be bad. Now I have to wait 48 hours before I can go again.
