A day on the Exe

The trip was made to the river exe after yesterdays postponement and we arrived an hour or so below low water, Baits were quickly thrown out in the hope of catching one of the numerous reported flounders that have been caught lately.

The wind was a lot stronger than forecast and there was rain in the air.

As the wind died down it was turning out to be another nice day and a warm one !.... And no dogs had pissed on our gear so far... Bonus !

So after a short wait until low water, The tide quickly turned and the first fish of the day was landed and nice little............... whiting !..Arrghhhhhh... Cant get away from the bloody things even in the estuary.

A clicky video of the whiting recovering before swimming away to annoy another fisher folk..

So the baits were quickly thrown out again in the hope of fluking a flounder. It wasn't long before my carp rod was nodding again... This time it wasn't a whiting bite so I left it for a few mins before reeling in this little flounder.

It was deeply hooked but I cut the line as close as I could and released it, It swam along the shoreline a few yards before going belly up on the seabed a few yards out.. Think that one turned out the be food for the crabs.

We were using a boat to keep our gear in to keep it away from the dogs, As I was running very very low on bait elastic my mate was trying to find the elastic that he had been using... Before realising that he had left it in the boat which was now floating in the flooding tide, Thought it was worth checking how deep it was as he had waders with him but it was just a little to deep to retrieve the elastic.

Clicky video

So a good 12 hours fishing was had for one flounder and a load of whiting, I did miss a decent bite that I would have said was a school bass if it hadn't been the middle of winter
