Eastney lastnight 27th/28th

Arrived at Eastney about 2015 and was set up fishing by about 2035.
I was expecting a few more anglers down on the beach but apart from one person about 200 yrds away i had the whole beach to myself

I fished 2 rods, one with a three hook flapper size 4s and the other with very large lug / squid baits fished close in.

From the off the flapper rod was tapping away with the tell tale bites from Yting.
In the first 3 casts i had 8 fish with only one being a keeper, the rest were all about 10".

As the tide pushed in the fishing slowed a little but the Yting still came in at a steady rate.
The whole of the south coast seems to be plagued with them at the moment and it really makes you wonder what effect they have on the fry of other fish?
Still, i suppose if we are going to decimate Cod stocks then some other fish will prosper

Anyway back to the fishing.
The Yting were still comming in with most still under size, just for a change the odd Pouting was putting in an appearance. As for the Bass rod apart from the odd rattle nothing had touched it.

At about 2200 some other anglers turned up and with the whole of the south coast at their disposal set up 3 rods 10 yards to my right
Why do some people do this?

By about midnight i thought it was time for a change so i change both rigs to pompey loops and size 2/0s. About 5 lug on each hook and both rods were belted out in the hope for a Cod (Only joking )

And then it happened, with both rods out at distance, tips nicely bent with the tide pull. The right hand rod pulled down and then sprang back slackening the line.
I lifted it up and wound down the slack finally connected with whatever was at the other end. And in it came a dead weight with the odd little pull just to let me know i had a fish on. Into the surf it came, then into my headlamp appeared the white belly of................................................ .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..............a 2lb Bass
Oh well did i really believe that it could possibly be an Eastney Coddling, no not a chance.
As high tide approached and the wind picked up i decided to call it a night and get home to warm my squid soaked hands on my sleeping wife. Cheers luv

Not a bad sess in the end, certainly for the Solent in late Dec.
24 Yting 5 keepers.
4 Pout
And 1 Cod impersonating Bass that went back.

PS One other thing, i fished two 3 hook flappers. One had 3-4"snoods the other had normal length snoods.
The 3 inch snood rig caught 19 of the 24 Yting

Nice one, I'd be happy with a 2lb bass but it's frustrating when you're fishing for another species.

You catch far to many whiting as it is ,no need for shorter snoods
