| 03/12/2011 A nice evening down Eastney. After watching the forecast and the window for a few hours, I decided on venturing out for a few hours. Last trip out was a blank, so needed that changed! Couple of other previous trips (been to busy/lazy to do reports) had more than made up in advance though. ![]() So it was off down the tackle shop for fivers worth of Rag, and a couple of other bits and bobs while there of course. On the way there the dark looking clouds that had cleared seemed to be making a return on the increasing wind... Do I, don't I.... ![]() Seeing as oddly enough catching something was #2 on my list for the trip (Mental serenity was #1), I decided that I'd take the risk. Had a look at worms when I got home to find a nice batch of medium sized worms. Just recently I have been getting HUUUUGE great bloody things, that I could probably hand the line to and they would come back holding a keeper bass in their jaws! I'm not complaining, but sometimes it's nice to have something smaller for blank buster hooks. So gear packed, hopped on the bus to SPP, took a 10 min trundle down the front while waiting for that "Here!" feeling..... No real urge to pitch anywhere so I settled for a 'landmark' mark. #1 Rod rigged, baited, rest of gear strewn where it fell.... let's get this show on the road! My casting is nowhere near great at the best of times, but the attempt (and I use that word lightly) I put in was just shocking. *Snap*..... In no way would I put any blame on the crimping, it's (well was..) a pre-used rig that's had some decent fish on. The cast was really *THAT* bad. ![]() "&*^*ing great... so that's the way it's gonna be then..." Decided to let myself calm down while putting up bivvy, getting #2 Rod out, and setting up rest of 'camp'. Got both Rods out without any further Cabbage Casting. ![]() Chilling back having a coffee and smoke, after what's been a quiet first hour or so.... Get text from mate, "How's it going?" he was in no state to drive down after the Spurs result. Reply gets as far as "Quiet so far, but" (was going to go on to say Mind enjoying it so all's good)... *TING* *TING* Bell goes mental! ![]() ![]() Yay! I'm back in the Bass! After removing what left of the size 4 (not 4/0!) hook and returning so we can meet again when it's bigger, I decide to rebait and then get about relaying the odd coincedence* via text.... *ting* ......*ting**ting*.... Other rods going before I finished rebaiting the first! ![]() * I say that, due to the other week when Gullyworm was heading down Eastney too, as I spared a "I hope he having better luck than me.." thought, I hit in to a nice Bass. Eventually got both Rods rebaited and out, much easier when you not got pesky fish distracting you. Had a few more minor nibbles over the next half hour, then died off for an hour or so... So thoughts were turning to packing up and heading off back to somewhere warm... ![]() ...so I'll stay for another hour then. Seems the fact I 'Targeted' bigger fish (although the first whiting came in a 6/0!) for that last hour seemed to mean that the little fish were having great fun nibbling my jumbo baits like mad. All in all an absolute total success of a trip! Even managed to make the last bus home too! (Have seen it more than once leaving in the distance, and me with a 45min or so walk home fully laden with kit. If I expecting it after a solo night fish for example, I take extra fuel (Mars, DoubleDecker) for the way home.) __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! | Re: 03/12/2011 A nice evening down Eastney. Cheers Gulley ![]() After meaning to actually measure the width of my Rod case (Blue Fish sizer) for quite some time, hell I even bought a tape measure down the £1 shop to do it! Was also for one day when I start catching fish that are big enough to bring home, or as the spring/summer plans that are being worked on/dreamed up say, cooked on the BBQ on the beach! Quite handily picked up some long nose pliers while there! I have now finally got round to it. And for once.... not just in my life, but probably in male history... I found out I have been underestimating it's length! I'd guessed it to be 8" (giving myself an ego boost thinking it probably more 7.5).... Turns out to be 9" (or 23cm) and unlike other things, it doesn't shrink in the cold! ![]() Making both Whiting about that mark, but the Bass was bigger. ![]() Quote:
Half an hour..... ![]() You work miracles? One of my New Years plans ( I don't do resolutions as such) is to seriously work on my casting. In all honesty, I've been quite lazy on my learning so far. But that I put down to the time of year I got back in to fishing. Have even been considering some 'random' holiday bookings at work to allow for some nice spring/summer trips. If I can drag my Fishing Buddy out of his warm comfy pit, Winter fishing becomes a lot more bearable. He drives, has Tilly for warmth (the light is just a mere bonus now), also Gas ring/Kettle/Etc.... All available to me for loan, (his bivvy and spare rod rest live with me), just not the easiest of things to get on bus with or carry home in the small hours. Although part of my winter (def night!) fishing plan is to just use the 1 rod (rather than 2). Not that much difference to carry in the short term, but 45mins slung over a shoulder with the rest of my gear in another matter. Lighter shoulder bag then allows more chance for hand luggage, normally fish solo or driven from just my Holdall (holds 2x Rods/Reels/Tackle, Rest, Bivvy, Flask, Everything I need really) But a reasonable sized bag in the hand... really not want to put those words together the other way. That allows for a lot more options on 'carryables', current set up allows reels to be wiggled in to Holdall pocket as biggest item. Quote:
![]() (Can't remember if I ever said when I joined........) Name is in NO way related to fishing or owt, it's my old online gaming name from yesteryear(s). But that's another story entirely, also best told face to face.... It comes with actions! ![]() __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner!
