| Spent a few hours fishing Portland harbour yesterday with Jerry Twojackets. The plan had been to fish Chesil cove to try for a cod or two, but a strong south westerlie put paid to that idea. Plan B was to try for some of Portland harbours resident bass. So armed with a supply of squid, rag & lugworm, we arrived around mid-day & fished the tide in from low water until H/W at about 7.30pm. We caught from the very first cast. Bait robbing little wrasse every chuck.... But at least we were catching. ![]() Comrade Jerry with a cute little wrasse ![]() Had quite a nice day, as the harbour was nice & sheltered from the wind & very mild for november. No sign of any bass though & surprisingly no flounder either. The wrasse bites dried up as it got dark & we decided that the kebab house was calling around 7.30 pm. Had one more bonus fish though, just as I reeled in my last cast. This feisty little pollock grabbed my bait as it skittered across the surface. ![]() . __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: Portland harbour T'was a great way to spend a Saturday: a nice bit of fishing in a sheltered spot with some decent weather and a good mate, and he even acted as chauffeur and host for the post-fishing kebabfest, washed down with some local moonshine. (I would have said 'helped down' by some local moonshine, but I'm trying to give an honest report here...) |
