| There be silver in that there surf! So... Friday night came around, got home from work, got all my gear ready to pack in the morning (Flask is one of first things in, so that's why it wasn't packed already! Rods... Check! Reels... Check! Leads... Check! Tackle... Check! Alarm set nice and early so I can get up and get out to make the most of the day... Check! Even went to bed 'early'.... yet still got up late.... ![]() So it starts as one of 'those' days.... Off to the tackle shop with me! On joining the queue at the counter, just overhear the last few snippets of a conversation between bloke buying Rod etc and the woman serving... She: "You do realise that Bass was probably about 10-15 years old?" He: "??? I don't know, all I know is that someone probably eat it...." She: "Do you even realise by taking fish that you are not going to eat you are reducing the breeding stock for the future?" He: "Well, there's plenty more fish in the sea "Needless to say that went down like a lead ballon, along with a few 'rather loud conversations' on the comment among most others in the shop. Hopefully he may one day learn the error of his ways... ![]() After grabbing a selection of baits (am 'restocking' frozen bait storage too) it was off home to pick up my gear. On the way back I remembered I needed a new rag, forgot last time and came home with a rather obvious smell around me... I couldn't care less, but not sure those on the bus appreciated it. Stopped in one of the many £ shops, knowing that 1 even has a 'Fishing' section! ![]() Cheap towel packed as a fishing rag x2, and a Cheapy Handline so I can pop down South Parade one day with my little girl. Almost picked up a set of scales for a whole £1 too, but 2 thoughts sprung to mind... Shamefully the first was "Like I catch anything worth weighing...", then came "are they really going to be worth it..." Now with hindsight, I regret my decision not to 'invest'. But on the lighter side, I put that money towards getting even more from Greggs just down the road. Headed off down to Eastney, about 2 hours later than I wanted.... Which with the weather being reasonable and the wind light meant there were a few already pitched along the short walk.... Off I set a bit further....... Saw what looked like a nice size gap and headed down the beach.... only to find someone behind the mound that I was aiming to pitch in front of... ![]() Moved back down the beach a reasonable way and set up. Wind being so light didn't even need to bother with Bivvy.... Today was looking up! Got both Rods out, sat back for a Coffee and Smoke..... "Oh there's someone else here, we'll have to move down the beach..." I look up to see a family no more 6' away going through the same suprise I did earlier, but fair games they are moving up the beach..... About 10 paces...... I realise it's a free beach etc, but when I saw him start getting a Rod ready I had to bite my tongue a bit (mainly due to his family). Then out came his 2nd Rod... Back to one of those days again... A few quite minor weed monsters later, one of my Rods starts the classic weed sway again.... Coffee, Smoke.... then I'll sort it... Then came the almost un-weedlike lift and release... well if was the weed it had just lost a load so it's time to whip it in! "Hmmm.... maybe it's not dropped..... ooh.. bit of fight.... then again could just of been breakaway popping......" But no, out pops... ![]() May not be huuuuge, but put a hell of smile on my face. ![]() Now if only I had bought those scales I could of known how much my new PB weighed too! (Anyone want to 'guestimate' please feel free) Didn't come home with me, as I was pretty sure at the time it would be undersize, and without a 'proper' measure of any sort. It was safely returned so we can hopefully meet again when it's bigger! With a little further research I would put it about the 25-30cm range. So my next target is now a keep/eater! Not much else throughout the rest of the afternoon. But have to mention the positive sides too, just before I was going to start packing up with thoughts of a return for the night tide. A couple of fella's walk up and ask if I'm camped for the night (Bivvy had gone up due to wind picking up). Explained I was off home shortly to watch the football, turns out they were marking out pegs for an 'Open' Competiton and were more than happy to set out 'pegs' around me. So what with my new PB, and freshly restored faith in (some) peoples attitudes, have to put it down as a great day! ![]() Bring on the weekend! Hoping to squeeze the evening tide on Saturday, 99% certain NO fishing (unless it's low tide...) on the Sunday as that's my little girl's B'day. But the following week..... I have booked as holiday from work ![]() __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! Fish caught '12 : Forum Members met : chris.oldgit |

| Re: There be silver in that there surf! yep your right as per the links, do you maybe think, that the two lists have been set up to fractionalize anglers, to create friction as to which list, each angler uses. although the defra list is legal, others may insist on the other. just playing devils advocate on this ie: on bass 75cm or 3"(approx) is quite a difference __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity. |
