| well where to start its been 3 weeks since last went fishing and that was the disaster at Burnham wind/weather and family stuff have thwarted other trips, and also Rich has been seriously down about the fishing,,,so when i said we had to get out saturday as sun wind was up again it still took some persuasion as we knew by the time we could get aawy that we would be fishing a biggish spring tide down, something the local beaches arent noted for ![]() But I had dureing the week had a bit of a heads up about some late Ray from a very eastern devon beach, so at 8.15pm ( 30 mins after high) we were looking at a biggish / lumpy sea with a nice 2 ft surf but a steady S/E wind along beach..not ideal but fishable baits went out, sandeel and squid on 1 rod, big lug on other wihin 10 I had first blood with a doggy, which was still awkward to land in surf Rich had earlier had a ratchet pull but all quiet since , after returning my dog I saw Baggie was pulling into something, carried on rebaiting,, mmm rich is still hanging on,, " you need a hand ?" i ask,, "eer theres something on here" was reply then i see what hes holding in the surf,, yep its a ray ![]() ,,, a few very hairy moments in the mess of the surf and eventually I got the leader and pulled it free, and threw it up the bank, wet leg in process, praise the lord for wellies ,,Result!!!!!!!!!! and the scales came down to a very very satisfying 10lb12 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() baggies phone actually has better pic i think and then it was safely returned and swam away after these few shots well of course we fished on hard after that but ended up with multiple dogs each and whiting, huss and pout no more ray, untill sea dropped away to far and holding was too difficult in surf so a brilliant and much needed night and was rude not to celebrate with a Kebab from one of our old fave haunts on way Home ( i am sworn to secrecy as too which kebab had salad on it for the first time ever )a top top night and if can get pass I /we shall return very very soon ![]() dave __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives Last edited by pingu; 11-13-2011 at 07:31 AM. |

| Re: A ray of hope in the East for Baggie Cheers guys. As Dave says, I haven't really been into the fishing for a while now... Couple of reasons, but not least of which is because it's been such hard work... Where have all the bloody fish gone?? As a result I haven't been out much for ages and when I have been, it's generally been because I've been dragged out by ye olde feathered friend here... But I'm bloody glad he did last night. A fish to put a bloody gert big smile on my face and remind me why we do it.Cheers matey, wouldn't have happened without ya. Sorry about getting yer foot wet, but was worth it. Oh and even if it is one of my five a day, salad is defo off the menu. ![]() ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT!
